Salton Sea Pics 2

On the morning of August 8, 2005, I drove down to the Salton Sea (-229 ft) from Palm Springs and encountered some pretty weird stuff. Above is the city limits Salton City, a once developed area that is now virtually empty aside from a couple of trailers.

This is Marina Drive, the main drag in Salton City.

This is supposed to be the most photographed abandoned trailer in the world. Go figure. Anyway, Bombay Beach, on the eastern shore of the Salton Sea is just about the weirdest place in the country. Back in 1976 a series of tropical storms moved through the area, flooding a part of the town. It has now sunk in the salt build-up. Like the chair?

Here is another part of the flooded section.

At the North Shore of the Salton Sea, at a town also known as Mortmar, there are a couple abandoned motels and yacht clubs.

Behind the North Shore yacht club called "Aces and Spades."
